Welcome to our Annual Mentor Me Galore Scholarship Application!
This prestigious scholarship is designed to support underrepresented minorities across high school, college, and medical school who are passionate about becoming a physician.
The scholarship opens every year on May 1 and closes on August 1.

We are delighted to award Oluwaseunfunmi “Seunfunmi” Soyannwo as the High School Winner of the 2025 Mentor Me Galore Scholarship, receiving $1,000. A graduated senior at John Champe High School with a 4.39 GPA with acceptance to Northeastern University, Seunfunmi has distinguished herself as a researcher, leader, and advocate. She completed over 700 hours of independent lab research on medicinal herbs for malaria prevention, earning recognition at regional science fairs. Beyond academics, she is the Founder of multiple organizations, including her school’s UNICEF chapter and EBNY: Embracing Black Nubian Youth, while also serving as Vice President of the Science National Honor Society and Black Student Union leader. With numerous state and national awards, community service initiatives, and a passion for global health equity shaped by her lived experience in Nigeria, Seunfunmi embodies the resilience, innovation, and leadership this scholarship celebrates.

We are thrilled to announce Morayo Akintonde as the College Winner of the 2025 Mentor Me Galore Scholarship, receiving $1,000. A Howard University Honors student majoring in Maternal and Child Health Education with a 4.0 GPA, Morayo has distinguished herself through groundbreaking research on maternal mortality in Ghana, her role as a Head of Curriculum for Speak Out Sisterhood, and her leadership in international community service initiatives. She has also contributed to Alzheimer’s disease research at Howard University College of Medicine, led grant-funded projects through the CARE program, and dedicated her service to supporting children with autism and intellectual disabilities. With aspirations to one day become Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Morayo exemplifies academic excellence, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to equity in healthcare.

We are honored to award the 2025 Mentor Me Galore Medical School Scholarship of $1,000 to Ashlei Phillips, a first-year medical student at the University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. Ashlei submitted the best personal statement we have read in a very long time—one that beautifully captured the compassion, resilience, and calling that define her path to medicine.
Ashlei is also an extraordinary leader. She co-founded and serves as CEO of the National Society of Black Women in Medicine, now supporting thousands of students across 20 universities. She is Vice President of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UH, Secretary of the Student National Medical Association, Chair of her Class of 2028 Curriculum Committee, and a Mission Congruence Representative. Beyond campus, she serves on the AAMC Advancing Holistic Principles Advisory Committee, advocating nationally for equity and mission-driven admissions.
Her leadership is rooted in service and clinical excellence: years of experience as a certified medical assistant, tutoring and mentoring underserved youth, rebuilding homes in post-Katrina New Orleans, and working in community health. Ashlei’s accomplishments embody the mission of this scholarship—to uplift and empower future physicians dedicated to equity, empathy, and impact.

We are proud to recognize Kylie Butler as the High School 1st Runner-Up of the 2025 Mentor Me Galore Scholarship, receiving $500, on behalf of Jessica Lamour, Esq. A senior at The Willow High School in New Orleans with a 4.03 GPA with acceptance to Spelman College, Kylie has excelled as both a scholar and leader. Selected as one of just 15 students for the prestigious Ochsner Hospital STAR Program, she conducted hands-on research in genetics and cancer detection while exploring innovations like CRISPR technology. Beyond academics, Kylie serves as Varsity Cheer Captain, Campus Spirit Leader in Student Government, and a Student Ambassador, while dedicating over 350 hours to community service—including award-winning projects supporting seniors, mentoring youth, and combating teen violence. Her passion for neuroscience, inspired by her sister’s journey with epilepsy, reflects her commitment to advancing medicine and addressing disparities in healthcare.

We are proud to recognize Justin Fraser as the College 1st Runner-Up of the 2025 Mentor Me Galore Scholarship, receiving an award of $500. A Biology major and Spanish minor at North Carolina A&T State University with a 3.96 GPA, Justin has demonstrated excellence through his research on epigenomic therapies for Parkinson’s Disease at Duke University School of Medicine, shadowing neurologists in the Neurology ICU, and leadership as Vice President of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students. He also serves as an Honors College, SciTech, and Biology Department Ambassador, developing mentorship and community service programs, including health education for youth and food outreach for underserved populations. With a commitment to academic excellence, research, and service, Justin exemplifies the future of compassionate and driven physician-leaders.

We are proud to recognize Leslie Onyeji as the 1st Runner-Up of the 2025 Mentor Me Galore Medical School Scholarship, receiving an award of $500. A first-year medical student at the UNC School of Medicine, Leslie’s journey reflects her unwavering commitment to health equity, research, and community service. She has contributed to impactful dermatology research on Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Alopecia, earning multiple publications and presentations. As Co-President of UNC’s SNMA chapter, she leads initiatives that celebrate Black excellence in medicine and co-founded supportive spaces like “Hey Sis” for Black women in healthcare. A Kenan Urban Scholar and MED EXCEL Scholar, Leslie has also dedicated years to fighting food insecurity through organizations such as the Carolina Cupboard, Farmer FoodShare, and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Her academic excellence, leadership, and advocacy embody the values of service, compassion, and inclusion that this scholarship seeks to uplift.
